Rebecca Fish, "I got the part!" Ms Fish has been cast as Carnelle Scott in NRP's summer production "The Miss Firecracker Contest." How would you feel if you were known around town as "Miss Hot Tamale"? Or that your family tree includes a past beauty queen, an aunt who was the recipient of an organ from a monkey, and a cousin who was released from a mental institution? To top that off, you are named after a filler flower. This is the fate that surrounds Carnelle (short for carnation), the central figure in Beth Henley's Southern comedy, The Miss Firecracker Contest. Henley's piece deals with a lost Southern girl who desperately wants to win the local beauty contest. Surrounding her is a group of wacky Southern characters who cause her emotional strain and provide unbalanced support. For more details see Review tab.
